Hello Friends and Family....well, I am finally back in blog mode. Most of you know that we Byrds are now living in Oviedo, FL where Dan is serving on staff at First Baptist Church as the Collegiate Pastor. It has been a wild ride but we are settled in nicely into our new home here and are hopefully closing on our home in WV next week. I have had alot of fun making our house here home and have finally finished up most of the rooms. Thought you guys might like to see pics. I tried to place them in an order they would be if you walked through with me. There are multiple shots of each room. There are so many angles and niches I couldn't get it all in one. Hope you enjoy. I plan to start blogging each week and already have lots of Disney and other moments to share with you. If you are ever in the area we would love for you to drop by the Byrd House for a spell.
Enjoy the tour!
This is our house. We live in a great community called The Sanctuary. We have met some great neighbors and our kids have made lots of friends.
This pic is of our front doors.
These are the wreaths on my front doors. I found some wreaths I loved clearanced after Christmas and a floral design friend of mine added some funky feathers. I love them so much that they will probably stay up most of the year.
This is directly when you enter the front doors. Notice there are ledges or niches in the walls and also around the top part of most of the rooms. These have been challenging to decorate because they are so big and high but I tried to take pics of them in each room so you can see what I have done.
The chandelier in my entry.
This is a little area inside our entry where we drop keys, purses, bookbags, etc.
No coats though. LOL.
Here is the recessed area above the living/dining room. I hope you can tell where the pics are taken. The homes here have a very open concept. Our living and dining room are one room as you can see by the next pic and the room is also divided with tile and carpet. The tile leads into the kitchen/eat in area and then back to carpet in the family room.
This is the middle area between the lr and dr.
These two pictures are of the living room.
This is the dining room.
Here we have walked into the kitchen area. You can see it opens all the way to the porch. It is nice for entertaining but hard to decorate such open spaces. As you can see we hung windows we got in Boston behind our love seat to give some division between the rooms.
Here is a picture of the kitchen area taken from the eat in area. I recently painted and glazed the cabinets. I painted a small desk to match for the appearance of a built in. After new hardware they tie together great. I have now repainted every room in these pics. Wow...time consuming but well worth it.
This is the pantry wall. It is opposite the desk area and you can see the recessed area here, too. Also, the hallway on the right leads to our Master which I will show you later.
Here is my desk. My furniture came with a parson chair slipcover that matched. It worked great for this space.
another angle
This is our eat in area. I repainted the top of the table (yes, Dana that is the table from our yard sale) in one of my favorite patterns with leftover paint.
This is the wall in my eat in area. The hallway to the left leads to the master and the one to the right to the girl's rooms, bathroom and my sewing room. We will not go there in this tour since my kiddos are on spring break and their rooms are hazardous.
Now we are in my family room. This is our love seat. A great find on Craig's list. It is Pottery Barn but had a torn slipcover. After finding a replacement for super cheap on ebay it is right at home here.
A view of the family room from the eat in.
This is to the left as you enter the family room. I so lucked out with the chair, ottoman and the couch you will see later. A friend of mine is an interior designer and she was redoing someone's house. I bought all three pieces from her (plus another ottoman and the parson slipcover) for $400. I was excited about this bargain.
A view of the ledge in this room.
A close up of the board hanging in the ledge. My same funky feather floral designer friend mentioned earlier made this for me. (She does have a name...Jamie...but thought the description was too fun to pass up.) It is a favorite verse for Dan and me (Zephaniah 3:17).
In the hallway leading to the other bedrooms I took some canvases that were left with the house and painted them. Then I hung our framed family portraits from the canvases. I think it gives more presence than the frame alone and fills up the spaces nicely.
Here is the other side of the family room. My favorite place in our house. This is the couch I mentioned earlier. It has down wrapped cushions and it is so comfortable. If Dan even sits on it he is out like a light. It is hard to see in the pics...but I put a cotton tied rag rug in front of the couch. It is soft under your feet and gives the floor lots of texture.
Here is a scrapbooking board that another staff wife helped me make. It was so much fun and I love it in my family room. I found the wrought iron pieces and knew that would frame it great.
This is our screened in porch.
This is one of a pair of topiaries I found at a local thrift store. I was so excited to get them for $10 each. They are perfect on either side of the chairs.
This is a playset a friend gave me. After some tender loving care it is a favorite place for neighborhood kids to gather.
Now we are in the master. I will have to do a blog dedicated to this space sometime. From the faux fur bedshirt and faux fur trimmed curtains I made...it is a fun space. The method of hanging the curtains without a rod came from a great blog (nestingplacenc.blogspot.com).
This pic is taken from our bathroom. There is that open floorplan again. Our bathroom and bedroom open up to each other. It took a little getting used to but now we like it.
I used mix matched furniture in our bedroom. But after painting them out to match and adding new matching hardware I think they make a nice set.
I had to get creative with our nightstands since there was so little space between the bed and window and our bed is so high. I found two pub style barstools clearanced out and painted them, added knobs to mimic drawers and some baskets that sit on the rungs. I think they turned out great.
This is the spa tub in our bathroom. There is also a shower to the right.
Here is the vanity area of the bathroom. I utilized the empty space underneath with some inexpensive MDF shelves and some great baskets to store all our junk. I painted the cabinets and shelves in brown and used the same hardware as in the bedroom to tie the rooms together.
I just had to show you my plant in my bedroom. I took a grass plant I already had and added some great leopard print feathers in. I just love it. It goes great with the leopard rug.
Here you can see how our rooms are open to each other. The door on the right leads to the toilet closet. It does have a sliding pocket door (sometimes privacy is a good thing!)
I know I am silly to share these prints with you. But I just love them. They hang on the far wall of the bedroom. Below are close ups.
Well, that about does it. I hope you enjoyed the tour. I will show you the girl's rooms at a later date. Thanks for being patient waiting for me to send these pictures.
We love you all.
